Comfy Dresses for the Holidays

The holidays are here, time to get together with family and stuff our faces with all the delicious food that we make as a tradition. The best part is the food, you and I know that there is that one meal that we love and will eat for a couple of days.

If you are like me you like to enjoy a good meal, but you also know you cannot wear a bodycon dress during this time especially when you want to enjoy the meals, you don’t want to show your food baby, at least I don’t. I pride myself on my ability to eat but also pride on my sense of fashion.

I usually am the overdressed one during the holidays and I am proud of it, but now rather than wearing tight clothes, I have chosen to still look good while I’m comfortable, which is why I have done some research and found dresses that will keep you looking good, comfortable, and will let you enjoy your holiday meals.

Oversized Sweater Dresses

This style is my favorite during the Fall/Winter, they are comfortable, sexy, and perfect for any occasion. Extremely useful when you stuff your face with amazing food (wink wink).

How to style it:

  • If you feel like it is too baggy, get a smaller size.

  • If you want to make it sexy, wear over-the-knee boots

  • If you want to keep it more “family appropriate” wear tights and booties or flat knee-high boots

  • For accessories, add a hat or a beanie based on the look you are going for. You can keep it minimal without any of them.

  • Your jewelry will depend on the neckline, if you have a crewneck or off-the-shoulder wear a chunky necklace. If you have a turtleneck focus on earrings, wear studs. Don’t wear anything crazy because there is a lot going on with the neck.

  • Lastly, for your handbag get something structured or get a crossbody that will help shape your waist.

Shirt Dresses

Depending on the fabric this type of dress can be worn during the spring/summer as a layer or cover-up. If the dress is thicker, it can only be worn as a dress or layer over jeans and a tee.

How to style it:

  • For this type of dress, you want to wear your correct size so that way it fits correctly, you don’t want it to be baggy unless you want to wear it open as a layer.

  • For Jewelry, layer a bunch of necklaces. I suggest mixing choker, collar, and pendant necklaces.

  • This style is super flexible with the shoe selection,

    • Sneakers will give it a sporty casual look

    • Booties are still casual but it dresses it up a bit

    • Combat Boot (flat or with chunky heels) add a bit of edge (my favorite look)

    • Knee-high or over-the-knee boots add a little bit of sexiness. Depending on the length of the dress you can unbutton a button o two

Ruffled Dresses

This style is a more feminine and softer look. Most of the time these dresses are made of lightweight fabrics which means you can wear them all year long and have fun with the styling.

How to style it:

  • Based on your mood you can wear sneakers, ankle booties, knee-high boots, mary-janes

  • Jewelry: Long necklaces with pendants or collar necklaces

  • Accessories: wide brim hats, a cute trendy headband (jeweled or knotted would work best)

  • Handbags: A big sleek tote or shoulder bag
