What is body doubling?

Body doubling is a productivity technique that involves having a person available virtually, whether it's right next to you or across the room, while you work. Although this technique is incredibly helpful for many people who are neurodivergent or have ADHD, it doesn't have to be limited to just them. In fact, anyone who needs an extra push to stay focused and motivated while tackling tasks can benefit from body doubling. Even if you don't have any struggles with focus or motivation, having someone to work with you can be incredibly beneficial for holding yourself accountable and staying on track. It can also help you stay motivated and prevent procrastination, as you'll be able to make progress in a timely manner with someone to help you stay on track. In addition, working with someone can allow you to learn from each other, as well as get creative input from them to help you come up with better solutions to problems. Therefore, body doubling can be an extremely helpful tool for anyone trying to increase their productivity and stay focused.

Why Body Doubling Works?

The last few years have been all about going virtual and while many of us have embraced this lifestyle, there are some disadvantages that come with it. For instance, while we may enjoy the convenience of being in comfy clothes and eating whatever we want without worrying about people watching us, this can become monotonous and loneliness can start to kick in. This is where body doubling comes in. Having somebody to keep you company while you work from home (WFH), do some house chores, or just need a friend by your side can make things much easier and more productive. It's like having a buddy that you can rely on to help you stay motivated and get tasks done in a timely manner. Plus, having someone to talk to can be a great way to break up the monotony of working from home. So, if you're feeling lonely in your work-from-home journey, consider joining my body doubling LIVE on Tik Tok! It can make a big difference in your productivity, vibe, and attitude.

What is the difference between Co-working and Body Doubling?

Co-working brings people from different industries, paths of life, and various companies together to work in a shared place (virtual or physical).

Back in the early 2000’s co-working spaces became very popular, these places helped people build communities of people that needed a change from their offices, and they helped entrepreneurs network and get to meet people. Co-working is mainly known as a physical space where people get together to do some work and share facilities, services, and other tools that each co-working space offers. One of the most famous co-working spaces is WeWork. (here is an article about co-working)

Unlike body doubling, co-working allows you to collaborate with others and build a community of like-minded people, plus it helps you boost your productivity and enhance your creativity since you get to work with people from different industries.

Body doubling is mainly known as having a body on the other side, it is more for companionship and eliminates the loneliness WFH can do to an individual, unlike co-working with body doubling you don’t talk nor collaborate because the goal is to be productive and get Sh!t done.

Both of these techniques can be used when you are feeling lonely while working whether is it at home or in the office, having company with people that are supportive and align with what you are looking for is the best way to stay productive. It is up to you to find the right place whether is a virtual or physical space the goal is to stay motivated and be accountable for the work you need to accomplish.

I consider myself a hybrid worker meaning that I enjoy body doubling and co-working at the same time, which is why I created a space in Tik Tok where I go live, have music, remind you to stay hydrated, eat, and keep you motivated to get whatever you need to do get DONE!
